The lecture will offer a brief presentation of the research on “The cultural laboratories of faith” planned by the Universities of Ca’ Foscari Venice, University of Turin, University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, which intends to study over a long period, from the last phase of the process of Italian national unity to the economic “miracle” (1860-1960), the evolution of the forms of production of religious culture mainly of a “popular” nature. The aim is to investigate those products conceived by various religious institutions for a wide audience, with the intention of instructing, educating, outlining models, guiding social and political behaviour. The aim is to study from the inside some of the religious laboratories and cultural industries that have demonstrated a more effective capacity to penetrate all strata of society through the creation of innovative narratives and the use of diversified mass media.
