Between 2019 and 2021 the one hundredth anniversary of the occupation of Fiume by Gabriele d’Annunzio and his legionaries was commemorated, and the anniversary saw a flourishing of initiatives and studies.
Some of these studies represented a real turning point in the field of historiography: Enrico Serventi Longhi‘s Il faro del Mondo Nuovo, Fiume 1919. Una guerra civile italiana, by Marco Mondini, Fiume città di passione by Raoul Pupo and D’Annunzio e il mito di Fiume. Riti, simboli e narrazioni by Federico Carlo Simonelli. These studies allow us to look at and analyse D’Annunzio’s enterprise, its genesis and its controversial relations with Fascism from a different point of view.

The round table will see the authors discussing with Alessio Quercioli, a historian who has conducted research on the volunteers in the Great War and on Fiume, the most relevant and original issues that have emerged from their work.

An opportunity to reconsider an event long seen only as the dream of a poet-soldier and that instead, placed in the context of the first post-war period, becomes an essential element to fully understand the developments and outcomes.

Participation will be recognised as a training credit within the framework of the SSPG and SSSG teachers’ refresher courses.
