Per una storia dell’eredità materiale del ventennio fascista. Il caso trentino

The research aims to analyze the material legacy of the fascist regime in the Trentino region. Through the study of urban and architectural projects, public debates and institutional processes that involved the difficult heritage of the regime, the research will analyze the survival, the reuse or the abandonment of the fascist material legacy, recognizing both the specificities and the differences between the Trentino case and the national context.

The project will move from the sources of the Archivio Centrale dello Stato in Rome, and then it will focus on to local archives and debates. I will consult the sources of the Soprintendeze involved, since the 1980s, in the decision-making and operational processes in the material legacy of the regime. Finally, the research will not forget the biographies of architects and engineers of the Trentino area such as Giovanni Lorenzi, Adalberto Libera and Angiolo Mazzoni, the iconographic archives of the Fondazione Museo Storico del Trentino and the analysis of newspapers and architectural magazines like «Casabella», «Architettura», «Domus».

The project has also a public aim and it will rely on various partners. In Trento, the Fondazione Museo Storico del Trentino will be involved to create podcasts and contents for the public. Still on the subject of digital history, a WebGis mapping will be created to locate the material legacies of the regime in the Province. Finally, with the support of the DICAM and the DSRS Departments of the University of Trento, a cycle of seminars on the Difficult Heritage theme will be organized involving national and international researchers and experts.
