Slavery in the Mediterranean is often seen as shaped mainly by religious divides rather than race. Yet dark-skinned enslaved men and women were often in the most subordinate positions. Can race studies shed light on Mediterranean slavery, and can this case rethink early modern racialization?

The workshop addresses two pressing questions in contemporary German history that continue to have significant implications in the present.

After 1933, half a million refugees left Nazi Germany, including roughly a third of the university professors after the racial laws of 1935. In Fascist Italy, the exodus of university scholars that began in the late 1920s escalated with the anti-Semitic laws of 1938.

I diari sono in primo luogo testimonianze di sé, ma anche del proprio tempo: come fonti storiche forniscono fondamentali punti di accesso per lo studio delle società in cui vennero redatti. Nel seminario sarà illustrata una ricerca in corso che si fonda su queste premesse metodologiche.
