This talk presents two experimental projects integrating generative AI into historical research and digital public history. These interdisciplinary projects leverage emerging tools and invite discussion of the next frontier of history education and research.

Slavery in the Mediterranean is often seen as shaped mainly by religious divides rather than race. Yet dark-skinned enslaved men and women were often in the most subordinate positions. Can race studies shed light on Mediterranean slavery, and can this case rethink early modern racialization?
