The invention of printing is often praised as one of the greatest inventions of humankind. In the past it has attracted much attention from scholars across disciplines.Despite the abundance of studies, several aspects of print history remain rather poorly understood; including the volume of production, i.e. print runs.

From the early modern period to the present, Christian missions have been central to the global history of the Churches, shaping religious institutions through encounters with new peoples, forms of knowledge, and environments. Missionary activity functioned as a laboratory of adaptation, where evangelization intersected with colonial expansion, cultural translation, and social transformation.
